They had already been separated before, but it was different when it comes to college. They wanted to remain together, but this was hard since they planned to go to colleges in different states. “Right after we graduated from high school, we were pretty hesitant,” Laura explained to People. “We were like, ‘Do we stay together? Do we try to make it work?’”

They did not want to make things hard for each other. Matt planned to attend Columbia College in Chicago, while Laura was set to go to Northern Arizona University. They had 1,600 miles in between them but felt determined to make this relationship work.
