The Most Extravagant Overwater Bungalows In The World

Who wouldn’t want to go on a relaxing vacation on a gorgeous tropical island in their very own bungalow on the water? When you think about it, it’s the perfect escape from our busy day-to-day lives: lounging in the sun, watching the water, sleeping in a luxurious king-sized bed, eating amazing food, and going to a spa for incredible massages. As it turns out, there are plenty of resorts around the world that have overwater bungalows to choose from. While most of them are in the Maldives, there are some others that are just as amazing that are worth going to. From Bora Bora to Fiji, you can find overwater bungalows in many places all around the world. If you can’t decide where to go on your dream vacation, we’ve gathered the top 4 overwater bungalow resorts from around the world.

Four Seasons Resort, Bora Bora, French Polynesia

This private paradise is in the heart of French Polynesia. The water is a beautiful shade of turquoise, and there are magnificent views of Bora Bora’s Mount Otemanu. If you feel like you might get bored staring at the ocean, you can go snorkeling and see the stunning colorful corals, exotic fish, rays, and even sharks. The Four Seasons even has a marine biologist who can take you on an excursion! If you’re just looking to relax and do nothing, this place is perfect. You can stay in your bungalow the entire time and get meals and cocktails delivered to you by canoe.

Gili Lankanfushi, Maldives

This resort is only accessible by boat, and the only resort on the Maldivian island of Lankanfushi. The resort made the most of the space they have on the tiny island and built the 45-suite resort. They even went as far as creating bungalow islands which are essentially stilted villas that are completely disconnected from the land. The rooms are decorated in a rustic-chic style, have sprawling decks complete with sunbeds and hammocks and direct access to the ocean.

Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort, French Polynesia

This resort is located on a small island in the Tikehau Atoll northwest of Tahiti and has 24 bungalows. They have two kinds of bungalows: the premium overwater bungalow or suite will give you direct access to the water, while the overwater suite has glass floors to allow you to see the fish in the lagoon beneath. All the bungalows are designed in a Polynesian style with materials like coconut palms, bamboo, teak, and local wood. Naturally, the resort’s restaurant serves fresh European and Polynesian foods, and the spa is in a stunning bungalow on the beach.

Aitutaki Lagoon Resort and Spa, Cook Islands

Another resort that is on its own island, the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort and Spa is 400 miles southwest of Tahiti and is the only resort on the Cook Islands with overwater bungalows that have direct access to the lagoon. As one would expect, the sunsets are absolutely stunning, the beaches are the perfect champagne color, and the water is a gorgeous shade of turquoise. There are great activities on the resort such as snorkeling and kayaking.
