He Faced Antisemitism For Being ‘The Only Black Jew’
Drake has a unique religious and racial background. Drake’s father is an African American Catholic from Memphis, while his mother is Jewish Canadian. Drake said he faced antisemitism during his childhood and teenage years for being the only “Black Jew.” He attended Vaughan Road Academy in Toronto and described the school as “not by any means the easiest school to go to. [It’s tough].” He stated he was constantly bullied and actually temporarily dropped out of the school because of it. He did end up graduating in October of 2012.
His Father Introduced Him To Rap…From Jail
Drake accredits his father for introducing him to rap music. According to Drake, his father shared a cell phone with another rapper named Poverty while he was in jail. The two reportedly swapped lyrics over the phone.
