Shelley Duvall got started in Robert Altman films, which helped her get noticed by Hollywood producers. This led her to receive roles in films like McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Brewster McCloud, Nashville, 3 Women, and Thieves Like Us, but it was her roles in Popeye and The Shining that made her a household name. Cloris Leachman was already well known by the 70’s, but it wasn’t until this decade that her career really took off, thanks to her Oscar win for her role in The Last Picture show. She would go on to play Phyllis on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which also won her numerous awards.
