70s Stars: It’s Time To Catch Up

Who could forget the 70’s? Flower power, political unrest, technological advances, and some of the most cringe-worthy fashion (which seems to be making a comeback). But what about the decade’s celebrities? Whether they’ve remained in Hollywood or switched to equally glamorous careers, these stars are still near and dear to our hearts.

Before she became known as the “First Lady of Rock,” singer Linda Ronstadt started off by performing at the Troubadour nightclub in West Hollywood. The “Queen of Rock” would go on to win ten Grammy’s and have over thirty of her albums go gold or platinum. Tragically, Ronstadt’s career came to an end in 2012, after she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. The following year she released a memoir, Simple Dreams: A Musical Memoir, detailing her time in the limelight.

Goldie Hawn got her big break while on Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In. From there, she leapfrogged into various comedic roles, starring in films such as Butterflies are Free and There’s a Girl in My Soup. Major hits like Overboard, The First Wives Club, and Death Becomes Her firmly solidified her career. Hawn was reportedly a fan of the Overboard remake according to its star, Anna Faris. After taking a brief break from Hollywood, Hawn returned to the big screen in 2017, starring alongside Amy Schumer in Snatched.

Pam Grier began her career in the early 70’s, appearing in numerous Blackploitation films such as Foxy Brown, Coffy, and Sheba, Baby. She even wrote a book about her life, which she recently announced will be turned into a biopic. She currently plays the grandmother in This Is Us.

Gray worked as the body double for Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate—those aren’t Anne Bancroft’s legs on the poster! Gray was reportedly paid $25 for one leg! In 1973, the now-famous “Battle of the Sexes” pitted tennis legends Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King against each other. After her momentous win, King shot to fame and fortune. In 1981, she became the first female athlete to come out publicly. Six years later, in 1987, she would divorce Larry King and be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. She now lives with her former doubles partner, Ilana Kloss, in New York City. Emma Stone will play King in an upcoming film about the famous tennis match.
