Dolly Parton is the recipient of various music awards, but did you know she was also nominated for the Academy Awards? Her song “9 to 5” was featured in the film with the same title. It starred Dolly Parton herself together with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. What a talented cast! She also received an Academy Award nomination for the song “Travelin’ Thru,” written and performed for comedy-drama film Transamerica. The movie told the story of a road trip taken by a transgender woman and her young son.

The song was all about the 9 to 5 arrangement by which most people live their lives. Perhaps, this is why it is not surprising to learn that Dolly Parton is a successful entrepreneur as well. The musician actually invested in various businesses based in Eastern Tennessee. Of course, this also includes the creation of her Dollywood theme park. Apart from this, she is the owner of a dinner theatre attraction called “Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede.” It has been going on tours in and around the United States since 1988.
