While this is a huge debate in pop culture, Drake did start from the bottom. He experienced a ton of hardships during his youth. His father was arrested and put in jail, his parents got divorced, his mother was sick and struggled to support the family, and he faced bullying for being “the only Black Jew” at his school. There was a time his Degrassi earnings was the sole source of income for him and his mother. He stated in an interview, “My mother was very sick. We were very poor like broke. The only money I had coming in was off of Canadian TV.” His song “Started From The Bottom” was released in 2013 and is a reflection of his personal struggle for fame and success. He stated, “I just wanted to make it known that I did work really hard to get here and it wasn’t just a fluke and it wasn’t easy by any means.”

Drake has had public battles with many rappers and singers including Ghostface Killah, Pusha T, Kanye West, Common, Ludacris and Chris Brown. The ongoing feud with Chris Brown is probably the most infamous. The two have been arguing over singer Rihanna whom they both have dated. On June 24, 2012, the two were involved in a fight when Drake and his crew allegedly threw glass bottles towards Chris Brown at a nightclub in Manhattan.
