Arresting The Suspects
It seemed like the men knew that they had been in trouble and quickly raised their hands in surrender. Perhaps they knew that there was no point in trying to make a run for it, so they cooperated instead. Considering this, the police figured out that they had been doing something bad. They followed protocol and apprehended them, but not without coming back in to see what they had been trying to hide in the first place. The authorities then returned to the house and braved the stench yet another time.

As they went back to that part of the house, they all took note of how damaged the interior of the house was. It was, for a lack of a better term, falling apart. They saw cobwebs in the ceilings and windows but saw no light anywhere. While they had suspects already, they still had no answer to the stinky question.
