At the start, the residents of this neighborhood had no idea where the bad smell was coming from. Back then, they thought that the best course of action was to simply ignore the problem. There was a good chance that it would go away soon enough. However, it did not happen to them. They did not wish to blame each other, so the situation just got worse. In the end, everyone reached the conclusion that the odor was coming from a certain abandoned house. They knew they had to do something about it.
