Everything was going great, but then Jonna found out 2 months later she was pregnant! The family was pretty upset according to Jonna. They of course never would imagine that she would get pregnant before she and David were married. While they are a more liberal Amish family, having children out of wedlock was going too far outside of their beliefs. To them, it was inappropriate and not ok. Jonna decided to leave the country to calm herself down and figure out what to do.
