One they all got together, they had to first check if everything was in order before they could get to work. They came up with the list to ensure that nothing was going to be missing by the time they sailed out. Their emergency tools were important should anything come up.

If they failed to prepare or pack anything on the list, it was going to mean a longer day. After all, they would then have to return to the dock to get the item they forgot to bring with them. They did not want such a thing to happen, which is why they worked hard to ensure that their checklist was fulfilled before they headed out.
