It took a long trip down to Kyle’s new house than he realized. They were still driving for two hours. John is astonished at how long they need to drive. Since moving away with his new family, he had not visited Kyle yet. John was so caught up in his job that he nearly forgot his old partner. And that thought made him, somehow, feel a pang of guilt.

Kyle leaned towards John when John and the forensic team arrived at the scene and got close to the tree, and the dog jumped up and down, licking his hands and face. Ever since Kyle’s new owners moved out of the city, they had not seen each other, and thus, Kyle seemed ecstatic to see his ex-partner again finally. Thomas could have sworn that he had never seen Kyle so excited, that he knew that their friendship had run deep, that he had longed for such a close relationship with Kyle somehow.
