In the decades after her first hit, she became one of the most successful and popular country singers in history, collecting an amazing streak of Top 40 and Top 10 hits. She released many very popular records and received numerous nominations for the Country Music Association awards. A few of her hit songs are “Blood Red and Goin’ Down” and “What’s Your Mama’s Name?” In 1975, her single, “Lizzie and the Rainman,” became another hit, and it was followed up by “Strong Enough to Bend” in 1988. She is often listed as one of the top influences for a lot of female country singers.

The character Dee Thomas on What’s Happening was portrayed by actress Danielle Spencer. Danielle landed the role as the “more than annoying little sister,” which she played with such confidence. Dee Dee’s favorite saying was, “Ooooohh, I’m tellin’ Mama!” The series was on the air from August 1976 until April 1979.
