She Was Named After A Hit Song From A Broadway Musical

The famous pop star was named after a hit song from the musical turned movie Paint Your Wagon. The show ran on Broadway in 1951 and was later turned into a hit movie in 1969. She was named Mariah after the song’s title, “They Call The Wind Maria”. Her parents decided to add the “h” for a unique spin on the name. You have to inherit some sort of musicality when named after a song from a Broadway show! We know Mariah Carey sure did.
