A Moment With An Ostrich

Ostriches in the wild normally run away from people since the flightless birds see humans as predators. Fortunately, the Degrés encountered a tamed ostrich that a local farmer owned. This ostrich is called Linda and you can see that Tippi is riding the large bird’s back, looking very carefree as the wind blows through her hair.

The Degré family also encountered many tribespeople throughout their travels. Tippi especially befriended people of the Kalahari Himba tribe and the bushmen. Tippi learned from the tribe how to survive on berries and roots, speak their language, and use a bow and arrow. “When we filmed the San Bushmen of northern Namibia we would let Tippi spend the day with the group without us until she would fall asleep among the kids,” her mother said.
