David Tallichet

Tallichet was the other half of the team leading the exploration. He had loads of experience working with aircrafts as he was a WWII veteran himself. His work involved collecting military aircraft that had been restored. At one point in time, he had 120 planes including a P-40 Tomahawk and B-52 bomber. The thought of adding a new one to his collection fueled his excitement. But they still hadn’t identified what type of aircraft they discovered.

Once they moved on to exploring more of the aircraft, they were able to determine what kind of plane it was. The Swamp Ghost was a B-17E Flying fortress, something Tallichet had flown during the war. Their team brainstormed how they could safely recover the Swamp Ghost. Their group started the journey in 1980 and it would take decades for them to succeed at this challenge. A lot of people had believed that it was impossible, but they were even more persistent.
