A Florida man named Ja Du considers himself to be “transracial” which is a term to describe someone who was born the incorrect race or ethnicity and identifies as another. He was born white but only feels comfortable living his life as Filipino. He said in an interview he has this realization early on in his life. He said, “Whenever I’m around the music, around the food, I feel like I’m in my own skin.”

Rachel Dolezal says she is “Caucasian biologically,” but perceives herself as “trans-black.” In an interview, she stated, “the idea of race is a lie” and has articulated the concept of “transracial” is not much different than transgender. Her son isn’t so happy about her transformation. He said in a recent interview for a Netflix documentary about her, “I resent some of her choices and I resent some of the words she’s spoken.” He continued, “She did not choose her words carefully. It affected me, it affected my brother.” Maybe time will cure their relationship? Who’s to say.
