Taipei is the capital of Taiwan, and it is incredible! It is well known for the best street-food, night markets, views, and hot springs in Asia. No matter what you want to do, you can find it in Taipei! It has great shopping, incredible nightlife, and hiking for nature lovers. Here are our 3 top picks of places to go and things to see in Taipei:
Shilin Night Market
The Shilin Night Market is the largest and biggest night market in Taipei! We also think it is the best night market in Asia! There is amazing street food, a ton of awesome shops where you can buy very unique products and fashion, and also a ton of games! You will see a mix of locals and travelers, and this is one experience you shouldn’t miss. Don’t go too early, everything really starts in the late evening.
Beitou Thermal Hot Springs
The springs at Thermal Valley are the hottest natural hot springs in the world! The Beitou springs are just one of 12 sites in Taiwan and are located in the Datan Mountains area. You can really smell the sulfur! There are plenty of springs open to the public for a small fee, or you can stay in a boutique hotel. Many of them offer massages and have their own private hot springs. Around Thermal Valley you can see hokutolike, a rare type of rock that is only naturally occuring in Beitou and at the Akita Prefecture in Japan. There is one spring that is too hot for humans, but it is really cool to see it!
Taipei 101 is a huge skyscraper in the Xinyi District of Taipei. It used to be called the Taipei World Financial Center. It was the world’s tallest building in 2004, but no longer holds the title. Nonetheless, it has a very fast elevator and you can see a beautiful view of the city from the top.
