While the family is still very wealthy and regarded with a high status, some of their prominence declined in the mid-20th century. They had a mansion on Fifth Avenue that was torn down, and many of their belongings were sold or put into a museum called “Fall of the House of Vanderbilt.”
Gloria Vanderbilt
Gloria Vanderbilt is Anderson Cooper’s mother and great-great-granddaughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt. In the 1930s she was involved in a very, very high-profile child custody trial.
