Well now we’re talking about clothes again, time to discuss Mary Ann’s outfits. In reality, actress Dawn Wells gave more to her onscreen persona’s wardrobe than what fans knew. Wells realized she would always be measured against co-star Tina Louise (Ginger). Therefore, Wells wore outfits that would show a lot of leg to compensate for her being short. Hence, she thought of short shorts when navels weren’t even permitted to put an appearance on TV. She added some extra cloth to conceal her belly button, yet her outfits still appeared garish to people. You need to keep in mind that Mary Ann was the first character to ever wear short shorts!

Obviously, since Gilligan’s Island started airing in the 1960s, many members of the cast have since passed on. As a matter of fact, the celebrated creator Sherwood Shwartz likewise passed away in 2011. Talking about the main cast members of Gilligan’s Island, just Dawn Wells and Tina Louise are still with us. We’re all definitely hoping these dazzling women stick around for a whole lot longer!
