We’re spilling the beans on this one. Natalie Schafer, as you may remember, played Mrs. Howell on the show. Anyway, Schafer was not completely being honest to the whole cast, the crew, the producers and to be honest, the fans all along. She never told anybody her actual age, but the truth was revealed. Evidently, she was over a decade older than Jim Backus, the actor who played her husband on the show. In any case, Schafer never wanted others to find out they had a very big age gap.

To be quite frank, there’s much more to Natalie Schafer’s story. It seems that she included an exceptionally extraordinary proviso in her contract. It was stipulated in the proviso that Gilligan’s Island could never film her face up close. Why? All things considered, she didn’t need anybody to see her wrinkles. This way, nobody could ever speculate the 13-year age difference between Schafer and the actor Jim Backus!
