Obviously, one of the show’s key feature was that characters on Gilligan’s Island were able to get radio transmissions from an AM radio by Packard Bell. Turns out, the show’s crew had been the ones who attached a telescoping antenna to the radio, with the specific goal of making things believable. Gilligan’s Island crew had the idea the antenna would enable people to somehow believe that long- distance messages would be able to come through on the island. In real life, however, the Packard Bell model featured on the show didn’t come with an antenna or a handle.

Another key element of Gilligan’s Island had been, for the greater part, the preposterous innovation that got produced using island scraps. Obviously, this posed a serious test for Gilligan’s Island‘s prop group. They needed to be extremely innovative and creative with only few arbitrary things. People reflectively call it Macgyvering, as that wasn’t definitely a thing yet!
