On My Block
With diverse casts and relatable storylines, Netflix’s teen content has recently been quite successful. And On My Block, a coming-of-age comedy, was no exception, with Netflix declaring it the year’s most-binged show. In a trailer for the upcoming season, Netflix announced that Season 4 would be the final season. The original show may have been canceled due to rising production costs, according to the Hollywood Reporter. In 2019, a number of major characters from On My Block made more money. And it’s not the only Netflix original coming to an end this year after three or four seasons: Dear White People, Ozark, and Atypical are also departing.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show
After nearly two decades of dominating daytime television, The Ellen DeGeneres Show will be ending next year. The cancellation was prompted by recent allegations of a toxic workplace. Executives have also been accused of racial insensitivity, intimidation, and harassment of lower-level employees. Degeneres publicly apologized after a Warner Bros. investigation, and three executive producers were fired. The veteran talk show host claims the controversy had no bearing on the decision to end Season 19 of the show. “I was going to stop after season 16. That was going to be my last season, and they wanted to sign for four more years and I said I’d sign maybe for one … So, we [settled] on three more years, and I knew that would be my last. That’s been the plan all along,” she confided in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
