Five Years Later
After encountering some unexpected cultural differences when they first got together, Jonna seems to have been quite influential on her husband and has almost acquainted him with the 21st century and back pockets. She still teases in her blog though how ‘five years later, there are still times that I have to remind my husband that his pants have back pockets and he’s now a master of the Google’.
The Phone Shack
Jonna also gave us some more insights into the Amish culture. Although the Amish take pride in shielding themselves from modern technology, they can run but they cant’t hide from everything. That includes phones! Though they’re still careful to ensure that they don’t get addicted like us, so Jonna discovered that Amish people have a “phone shack”. This can be a “pole barn, shed or literally a tiny shelter that only stores the phone, they have one”. So they’re not tempted to become addicted to smartphones like us “they put the phone outside”, but they are addicted to voicemail and ‘two-minute long messages’.
