Lodged In A River
The Sam Ratulangi made contact with land as it was floating along the Sittaung River. It got stuck in the riverbed about seven miles away from the Thamaseitta, the nearest village. The Sittaung River was rarely used for trade because of its strong currents, though it was regularly used to deliver timber to the south. The river has a length of 260 miles, though only small ships and boats have the ability to cross the shallow waters.

Ghost Ships In Japan
The Sam Ratulangi was not the first ship to have washed up ashore as a real ghost ship had been discovered along the Japanese coast in 2017. The wooden boat landed on the beach and eight skeletons were found inside. The boat must have been drifting for some time based on the state of the bodies. The investigation led to the conclusion that the eight bodies belonged to North Korean men. Apparently, this was not exactly uncommon and Japan has seen its fair share of washed up ships over the years.
